Meet the Artist 


Canadian pianist Jane Coop 
(MusBac ‘72, U of T) has established 
‘selfas one her country’s most promi- 
nent and distinguished artists. She has 
toured extensively throughout North 
America, Britain, Western and Eastern 
‘Europe, Russia, China and Japan. Her 
recitals have graced the international 
stages in cities like New York, London, 
St. Petersburg, Warsaw, Prague, Beijing 
and Tokyo. 


As a concerto soloist, Ms. Coop has 
worked with such eminent conductors 
as John Eliot Gardiner, Andrew Davis, 
Rudolf Barshai and with Mario 
Bernardi, recorded three concertos with 
the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra on 
CBC’s SMS5000 label. Ms. Coop has 
also appeared with the Royal 
Philharmonic, Seattle and Oregon 
Symphonies, the Hong Kong Phil- 
harmonic, the Bavarian Radio Orch- 
estra and every major orchestra in 
Canada. 


As a recording artist, Ms. Coop’s 
discography of eleven titles on both 
the Skylark Records and CBC Records 
has earned her such praises as “one of 
the finest Chopin discs of the decade” 
[InTune Magazine - Chopin Nocturnes 
and Mazurkas]. Her discography 


continues to expand with the pending 
release of her second concerti 
recordings: Piano Concerti of Barber 
and Britten with the CBC Radio 
Orchestra. As for her recent releases, 
“The Romantic Piano Vol. II” and the 
chamber repertoire of Brahms and 
Jenner, they have already garnered great 
acclaim and are often heard on myriad 
radio stations across North America. 


Equally at home in chamber 
repertoire, Ms. Coop has collaborated 
with many of Canada’s leading instru- 
mentalists and is frequently invited to 
perform at chamber festivals. She is a 
regular artist/teacher at the 
prestigious Kneisel Hall Festival in Blue 
Hill, Maine. 


Her major teachers were Anton 
Kuerti and Leon Fleisher. Presently, Ms. 
Coop makes her home in Vancouver, 
where she is Professor of Piano and 
Chamber Music at the University of 
British Columbia. 


Jane Coop is a Steinway Artist and 
records for the Skylark and CBC’s 
Musica Viva and SM5000 labels. Ms. 
Coop is represented by Andrew Kwan 
Artists Management Inc.
